Wellness Rituals with a Superfood Superstar. Meet MIJA
Consuming high quality foods and supplements is something I have grown up with. Being an athlete and having parents who were athletes, it has come as second nature to be conscious about what I put in my body in order to perform my best. I feel lucky to have this quality so ingrained in me, especially now as I step into my late 30s and am starting to feel the subtle changes of age in my body. I also recently went through a round of fertility treatments to freeze my eggs, and I cannot tell you how much I believe that proper supplementation and nutrition were vital in helping me produce viable eggs, as well as supporting a more easeful 10 day injection experience and recovery after the retrieval procedure was over.
When it comes to supplements, it is important to choose organic and non-GMO products in order to fuel the body with clean and bioavailable nutrients. One of my current obsessions right now is a brand new product created by MIJA, a Silicon Valley-based company founded by a board-certified registered nutritionist. Their hero product, Superstar, is a powdered formula of herbs, superfoods and adaptogens that are scientifically backed and uses real-world data points to address universal nutritional gaps and dietary deficiencies. I found Superstar during the preparation process for my fertility treatments in order to cut down on the amount of coffee I had been drinking. I wanted to consume a healthier caffeine alternative that would give me a sustained boost of energy to make it through busy days, as well as internally support and prepare my body.
To put it simply, Superstar is matcha on overdrive, in all the best ways possible. It tastes delicious by itself, but is also subtle enough to mix in with your favorite protein powder or smoothie and not totally change the flavor. It is formulated with ceremonial grade matcha, along with a slew of other superfoods and adaptogens like moringa leaf powder (a powerful antioxidant and antifungal that helped heal a bout of candida I had a few years back), goji berry (used in many Chinese herbal fertility teas to enhance reproductive function) and camu camu (the natural gold-standard for Vitamin C, which is proving to be more conducive for collagen synthesis versus actual collagen supplements), just to name a few. All the ingredients are 100% organic, plant-based, gluten-free, non-gmo, with no artificial flavors or sweeteners. Every ingredient is sourced locally, which is important in order to ensure the superfoods are as fresh as possible. The powders are also extracted from performance labs using proprietary processes that ensure the extraction retains the full spectrum of nutrients.
The boost of energy you get from matcha is totally different than the “jitters” that can be commonly associated with coffee caffeine. Matcha is balanced with a rare class of amino acids that are not only good for your body, but also give the caffeine in matcha a leveled release. Did you know that Buddhist Monks drink matcha to unlock creativity, ease mental fatigue, and promote zen meditation?! I love drinking Superstar in the mid-afternoon, and since it has recently been cold and rainy in The Bay, I mix it with steamed almond milk to make a healthy and delicious matcha latte. By the time I get to the bottom of my cup I feel a lovely sense of calm, focused energy that gets me through my day and gives me no issues falling asleep at night.
MIJA is a new company that is on top of the latest technology when it comes to superfood supplements. I also love that they are Bay Area-based, and I am supporting a local female-founded business, so I buy it straight from the source!
