On Chinese Medicine #fertilityfriday

My first experience with Chinese Medicine was during my freshman volleyball season at UC San Diego. I had partially torn a low abdominal muscle during practice and this nagging injury was taking forever to heal (this was also the first time I fully realized how much “core strength” goes into almost everything we do). Our athletic training department hosted a weekly acupuncture clinic for a local Chinese Medicine school, so I decided to have a session, and literally within a few days I was feeling and moving back to normal.

Since then I have mainly gone to acupuncture for aches and pains related to joint or muscle dysfunction. I had always heard about acupuncture being beneficial for fertility or those trying to get pregnant, so once I decided to start my egg freezing journey I contacted my good friend and amazing acupuncturist, Claudia Venn. I have been seeing Claudia weekly since August to prepare for my procedure this December. It is typically recommended to start sessions within 3-6 months of trying to get pregnant or going through a fertility procedure to best prepare your eggs and the rest of your body.

Consistent acupuncture treatments can increase the blood flow to the uterus and ovaries and improve the lining of the uterus. It also helps to regulate the fertility hormones that can improve the quality and quantity of the follicles, and is effective in general stress relief leading up to the procedure and can minimize the symptoms of the IVF medications. Overall, acupuncture can help balance your hormones, and improve your general health and fertility naturally, and put you in the best position to conceive or go through an IVF or egg freezing treatment.
